The Working Writer's Coach
If you long to become a freelance writer and make it a career, the best person I know to help you do that is Suzanne Lieurance, "the Working Writer's Coach."
I don't know about you, but when I look for someone to help me learn how to do something, I want to make sure that not only have they successfully done what they are teaching me, but that they are still doing it now. Otherwise, how do you know that what they're teaching you still works?
Suzanne Lieurance is still a "working writer," though now she is also coaching other people how to do it. She has written 13 books for children that are currently on the market, with one more due out next year. She was an instructor with the Institute of Children's Literature for over 5 years, working with over 100 students every year. Many of her have become published--some of them even before they finished the course with her.
Suzanne has also been a regional advisor for the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators, and she taught online workshops about children's writing at www.coffeeshouseforwriters.com for several years.
As you can guess, Suzanne's specialty is children's literature. However, many of the things she does to be a successful children's author translate to any kind of writing.
Any author must know how to write a query letter to an editor, slant her writing to a publication, writie a book proposal, keep writing and marketing time in balance. In addtion, Suzanne also does many of the things working freelance writers might do--ghost writing, editing, writing articles and creating other kinds of information products, such as audio training courses. Suzanne understands not only the writing side, but the business side as well--and that's what she can teach you.
