Why Don't You Put
the Whole Newsletter Here
Anymore?
Instead of posting the
whole newsletter the way I used to, I am
including links to the articles that appear in
this month's newsletter (which are on my
site).
Why must I do it this way? Answer: Search
Engines.
(This little tip is
important to know if you do any kind of Web
publishing yourself.)
Search engines--at least
Google--can actually penalize your site
(in terms of page rank) if there is
duplicate content on your
site's pages. That is, if the exact same
content appears on several of your site's
pages, or on your site and a lot of other
people's sites. (For a more in-depth
discussion of this, see my blog post on duplicate
content.)
Since I post the articles
on my site already (which is good for
search engine optimization), if I put the same
content on another page, it may work
against me. I'd rather play it safe, so you
will see links to each article in the
newsletter.
You will also see a link where you can download
(or simply read) the entire newsletter in a
nice, PDF format.
This way I provide the content you want, in
easy-to-read formats, and the search engines
are happy (which means, so am I)!
